Today, while scanning the web, I came across this article on Gawker: "Emmys Are Relevant Again, Declares Dying Old Media". I personally did not catch the Emmy's -- I believe I was watching Zorro on ABC Family -- but the article makes an interesting point. According to Gawker, the Old Media, such as the NY Times and USA Today, described the Emmys as a huge success. The Washington Post's Tom Shales notably went so far as to say that in the award show "America's traditional old broadcast networks staged a comeback." Gawker then goes on to criticize the show, saying,
"But in the end, 90 percent of the show is reading lists of names and listening to pompous speeches punctuated by dumb jokes, and even a teenage doctor can't make that relevant for the modern age."
Is the Old Media merely attempting to put a pulse back into an antiquated form of entertainment? The New Media says yes, and that there is no room for the Emmys, or the nostalgic perspective of the Old Media for that matter, in today's modern age.
